There is a bumper sticker than states "Real Men Love Jesus." When I first saw
that sticker, I thought that .it was great and that people were recognizing the
benefits of loving Jesus. However, do people understand what it really means
to love Jesus?
Jesus said in John 14:15, "If you love me keep my commandments." The scripture
infers that if we do not obey Christ then we do not love him. It is easy to talk
the talk, but we must walk the walk. We live in. a society that believes that
all you have to do is say that you love Jesus. The Old Testament gives numerous
examples of people who truly loved God. The Bible says that God saw that Noah
was just and righteous (Gen. 6:8; Heb. 11:7). Do you think that God would have
saved Noah if he had said "I love you, Lord" and then done nothing? Noah was
saved because he did all the Lord commanded him to do (Gen. 6:22; Heb. 11:7).
By faith, Noah served God and obeyed his commandments. Do you think that Noah
loved God?
Jesus said in Luke
, "But why do you call me 'Lord, Lord' and do not the things which I say?" We
prove our love for Jesus through obedience to his word. The bumper sticker that
I want reads "REAL MEN OBEY JESUS." – Chris Smith
MAKING GOD IN MAN'S IMAGE
What's that? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Through the Psalmist, God
once told
Israel
: "Thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself ..." (50:21)
... and that's one of our problems - we try to bring God down to our level!
Man hides from man - and so he tries to hide from God. Adam tried it and it didn't work. Man deceives
man - and so he thinks he can deceive God. Ananias and Sapphira, as well as Achan
tried it and failed.
Men fail to keep their promises - and so they think God will too. But "God is not slack concerning his promises..."
(2 Pet. 3:9). He will do precisely as he said he would - concerning either reward
or punishment.
Men bribe other men - and so they think God will accept their sops! We commit sin, and try to "make
up for it" by doing something good - yet never really repent. But God does not
need anything we have.
Man looks upon sin lightly - and so thinks that God does. But God abhors it and
will finally deal with it (Rom.
). No; God is not like man; he is the standard of judgment – not us. – Bill Moseley
AND ANOTHER THING ...
(Strange Folks)
Some folks can be pushed and insulted in a ticket line; they can be ignored
at the beauty or barber shop. They might even get bawled out at a restaurant or
grocery store! Yet the next time they need tickets - you guessed it - there they
are again! When it comes time for the next hairdo or haircut (that's less for
some of us than others), there we are - right back where we got insulted or ignored
the last time. When the family gets hungry, we head back to the same old grocery
store that we got the lousy service at the last time!
Once when I was out playing golf, I even had a worker turn the water on me; got
a good drenching (that's why I didn't do well on the next two holes). But come
the next Monday - yep, there I was again!
Why is it when some folks get slighted or "insulted" at church services, they
refuse to attend for weeks or sometimes quit for good? Some folks are sure odd,
aren't they? They need to be "right back in there" working for the Lord, insulted
or not. Well, I plan to keep working for the Lord, even though some might feel
like turning a hose on me! - Bill Moseley
