AND ANOTHER THING ...
(Saying What You Think)

Its been some time since I have related to you another one of my "little old lady" stories (this one, folks, is true). Art Linkletter used to say that the most honest people in the world are kids under seven, and women over seventy! Those compose a class of Christians among my very favorite people, mainly because they can, better than anybody else, keep me in my place!

Anyhow, on the story. Several years ago I had preached a sermon at a rather large congregation in Phoenix, AZ. A "little old lady" (age unknown!) was obviously trying to make her way across the foyer to where I was standing. She only found everybody else getting in her way, so she finally gave up on that and settled for talking to my wife. Her message for me was very simple. She says to Willene: "I can't get to where your husband is, so would you please tell him I sure did enjoy his funeral." Boy, that one hurt!

Embarrased, she quickly added that she didn't mean "funeral;" she meant "sermon." Yeah, sure! I love "little old ladies;" most congregations have some of them. We have a few here at Taylors that are very special to me. They exude an honesty and innocence that is rare among God's people. Reminds me of what a lot of the rest of us ought to have. Only one thing about the one who enjoyed my "funeral." I hope that on this occasion that she was not honest, but mistaken. And above all, I sure hope she didn't say what she was thinking! I might not be here now! - Bill Moseley
